Give me your arms for the brokenhearted,
the ones that are far beyond my reach.
Give me your heart for the ones forgotten;
give me your love for humanity.
Brandon Heath, “Give Me Your Eyes”
It’s not always easy to love the brokenhearted and forgotten. But when I was brokenhearted and forgotten, he loved me.
Here’s something I love about my husband: He’s always getting into something new. He’s an adventurer – snowboarding, cliff-jumping in Minnesota, creating awesome videos and, most recently – he’s teaching himself to play the drums!
I’m typically content with the things I know, which make me comfortable – reading a good book, enjoying a conversation with an old friend, taking our dogs for a walk around the neighborhood, making a cheesecake. These are no-fail things that help me relax and make me happy.
Sometimes Joe’s willingness to go with the flow, try new things and push boundaries makes me nervous. Sometimes it annoys me. And sometimes it makes me uncomfortable. But other times, I’m so thankful for it, because he won’t always let me stay in my safe little shell. He pushes me to experience life and to laugh at the unexpected.
Yes, that’s right, my very own husband made this amazing video of our wedding, using photos from our very talented photographer, Tim Trace, and the audio of the ceremony!
The first song, “This Day,” by Jadon Lavik, was our first dance song. My friend and mentor Ingrid played the processional, which you’ll hear as you see photos of my entrance. Our recessional was “Something Beautiful” by the Newsboys. And at the end you’ll hear our dear friends Beth and Jake singing “The Revelation Song.”
I know Friday was a hard day for many people as we remembered September 11, 2001. I heard this song yesterday. May God bless those who continue to mourn.
